About NRMTS

The Nottingham Roosevelt Memorial Travelling Scholarship is an annual award for young people aged between 21 and 30 working and/or living in the City or County of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire allowing them to visit the United States of America for a period of up to three months.

Founded shortly after the Second World War, the Roosevelt Scholarship is a living memorial to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who led the United States from 1933 through to his death in 1945 - an unprecedented 4 terms. In accordance with the wishes of his widow, Eleanor Roosevelt - who became the first chair of the UN Commission on Human Rights, and oversaw the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a fitting tribute to FDR would be to support young people to see the world, rather than another statue to be erected.

Since the first scholars went to America in the late-1940s, over 100 young people have travelled across the Atlantic and brought their stories and expertise back to Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

I'm incredibly honoured to have been selected as one of the three 2017 scholars and to be an ambassador for my home town when travelling in the United States.
